Description
- As the first GP at the 2004 season approaches, all eyes turn to the recent pairing of the Yamaha YZR M1 and Valentino Rossi; on this 18 April a major question haunts every mind around the bumpy Welkom circuit: how long will it take for the M1 to match up to Valentino's genius? As soon as the lights are out Valentino takes off in the lead: a legendary GP is in the making.
- The Yamaha responds well, is last season's story about to be rewritten? At this stage nobody dares believe it.
- The battle rages. After 3 laps Rossi, Biaggi and Gibernau have pulled ahead of the pack, with Biaggi taking the lead in fighting spirit.
- An incredible struggle then begins as a magnificent Valentino Rossi regains his top form with some impressive slides.
- As the half-way mark approaches, Biaggi and Rossi are playing cat and mouse (a game that Valentino rarely loses), but seven laps from the finish Biaggi, in a better waiting position, moves back into the lead.
- The wail of the 4 cylinder Yamaha becomes more and more urgent as, in the last meters of an extraordinary Big Price, Rossi regains the lead in front of Biaggi and Gibernau.
- The m1 roars in delight at the magician driving it: this is its first MotoGP victory.
- And it's the first time in the history of Motorbike GP makes: Valentino Rossi becomes a legend.
